In order to gather information about students' oral proficiency in Spanish and German, graduating seniors majoring in those languages are expected to complete the Speaking Test in the Language Lab by the end of their last semester. To complete this test, the student will have to record answers to a series of questions in Spanish or German that are provided on a tape. The result of the test will not in any way affect the student's graduation. The information will be used by the Department of Modern Languages for the sole purpose of evaluating our program in Spanish and German and its efficiency. This will in turn allow us to identify ways of improving the quality of instruction in Spanish and German.
Students should come at the same hours that are listed for the placement test. The students taking the speaking test will be given a cassette and a booklet with directions. The students will record their responses. The test takes 45 minutes.
